And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
That looks like a Model-19 Smith & Wesson with a 6" barrel. The same as the first handgun I ever bought. I still have her and she is a thing of much beauty!
I carried a 6” Model 19 on duty. Beautiful weapon I grew up with a Ruger 6 1/2” 357 and found I did much better with the longer sight radius instead of the issue 4”.
The interesting part is hidden. You know the 50 page instruction and safety books we have to put up now from gun manufacturers?
The total instructions for that Smith were printed inside the top of the box. How to load, how to fire, how to eject cases. Says a lot about this country, none of it good.
One of the best gifts any old girlfriend gave me is a Colt .22 Frontier Scout. Still have it and with Bird shot takes care of the few buzz-tails I have dispatched. I do have the box, but it isn't in that shape. Doesn't matter, I'll never sell it.. The girlfriend? Long gone and I dodged a nuclear missile.
The Mod-27 was the Rolls Royce of the S&W fleet, smooth as silk + amazing blue finish. Back in the day ( w/younger eyes) could put several out of a cylinder on 55gal lids at 100yds w/same mod as shown. Bought one 3 days after I turned 21, can't begin to guess a round count over 49yrs,,
With my 1st model 19, We were at a long cattle tank (pond). The west end had an embankment I could lean against, sitting down. WAAAAY off towards the other end (this was 1974 so memory, 75 to 100+ yards), was a duck, leisurely swimming away. Rested my elbows on my knees, took careful aim...pow! short. 2nd shot, long, 3rd shot hit the water, far enough behind (1"-4"?) to go through it's ass and stop at the forward end of the body. Centered, wasted no meat. Waited for it to blow into the shore, snag! My buddies mom asked if anybody wanted to eat it, everybody-NO, me, yes ma'am. She prepped it, I ate it, it was awesome, she knew how to season! ONLY duck I've ever had. The 158gr, Ltjhp, just barely started to deform, could have been reloaded! Lucky shot? Maybe, when I was 23 I had xlnt shooting skills and plenty of practice.

Prefer the Model 13.
ReplyDeleteFewer fiddly bits to break.
