Wouldn't want to absorb a hit from any of those

  1. But what are the brands/calibers? I'm guessing the top left is a generic 45 hardball. What about the rest?

    1. Good question and I'd like to know as well.
      9 mm unless I am mis-looking.

    2. casings are not chubby enough to be .45, IMHO. My fav in .45 is the winchester silver tip.

That is what is loaded in a few mags in the nightstand (with one in the gun, of course).

  4. The moment I found out my SIL had been carrying FMJs in her .380 I had to dig thru my ammo pile to find her HP. Save the FMJ for the range.

  6. Expensive or not, run a few (5+) boxes ( Self Defense is often 20/box ) thru the weapons you are depending upon. Many guns will run anything. Many are fickle.

  7. Back when Cobb Armory was going under I bought a keg of 9mm and .45 Federal Hydra-shok bullets. I still have a couple thousand 9mm and maybe 600 of the 45 that need to be loaded. It may not have as distinct "flower" but it does expand nicely.

  8. That Blazer round is labeled FMJ, which stands for Full Metal Jacket. It is designed specifically not to expand, per the Geneva Convention, etc.

  9. Winchester is the clear and obvious winner...

  10. The bullet on the top left might be preferrable (if at all) since it will most likely enter and exit without taking lots of tissue with it.

  11. Long time lurker, retired, no dogs in their race. Go to Lucky Gunner.com , then go to Labs---look up your favorite caliber, and how it performs in ballistic gel. I have changed what I carry on a daily basis. Gary Barnett

    1. I wonder what the medical term is for someone who changes carry weapons on a daily basis???

  12. If in doubt, do a mag dump. Just like the cops do. After 15 rounds or so, it doesn't really matter what bullets you used.
