  2. In 1975 I bought a 1961 Les Paul Custom. White lacquer with gold hardware. As most know, that was the double-cutaway, SG style that Mr. Paul disliked, but the Gibson brass thought would compete better against Fender’s offerings. The neck was thin and sweet, it virtual played itself. I paid a whopping $400 for it and gave it to my best friend, partially to settle a debt and partially as a welcome home present when he returned to the US. What an axe that was.
