The Space Shuttle Atlantis left space for the final time on July 21, 2011, descending to a smooth landing at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This astronaut photograph, taken from the vantage of the International Space Station, shows the streak of an ionized plasma plume created by the shuttle’s descent through the atmosphere.

  1. Looks more like a launch. Way too steep for a descent/re-entry. IMHAO

    1. So you're an aeronautical engineer? Some experience with space flight?

    3. Not an aeronautical engineer much less having a clue what an “ionized plasma plume” is. I’ll accept the flic as a space version of an aircraft turning tight with condensation trails coming off the wing tips. “Aircraft porn” to some.

  2. The angle of attack must be steep or else you would skip like a stone on a lake trying to re-enter the atmosphere.
