  2. I remember my Dad scraping out the box because he liked the wax flavor from the sides. Then the box made good kindling

  4. I'm going back about 50 years. Had an ice cream social at the park. Everyone brought their ice cream freezer in which they had their family's favorite flavor of ice cream. The nice family who had just moved to our small town from New York City brought the boxed stuff from Safeway. They didn't know yet.

    1. The hand-cranked ones were always best. Take the most energetic or obnoxious of the youngsters and put them to work!

    2. summer in rural NC always had one day with hand cranked ice cream- a trip to the ice house in Ahoskie to get a block to be ice-picked was in order early in the day. the place smelled of ammonia and had wet sawdust strewn on the floor.

  6. I remember when the ice cream containers were half chocolate, half vanilla Dixie Cups that came with a picture of Joe DiMaggio on the lid and a wooden spoon.

    2. Interesting. Hadn't seen that before. Thought for a moment that was an udder joke. "You know how that Aggie died drinking milk? The cow fell on him "
