Just watched the movie "Patton," now this is on order.

D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, the liberation of Paris, the relentless drive through Germany toward Allied victory--Omar Bradley, the "GI General," was there for every major engagement in the European theater. A Soldier's Story is the behind-the-scenes eyewitness account of the war that shaped our century: the tremendous manpower at work, the unprecedented stakes, the snafus that almost led to defeat, the larger-than-life personalities and brilliant generals (Patton, Eisenhower, Montgomery) who masterminded it all.

    1. Montgomery was a pompous fool !! operation market garden was his plan and it delayed the war for months, a total failure in planning.

  2. What a joke.
The Russians won that war, inflicting 80% of German casualties. They didn’t need the Lend Lease either.
Patton actually sucked. Total diva, look up the Battle at Metz.

    1. You know? Opinions are like azz holes...and some azzholes have really lame opinions. Case in point, the "anonymous" comment by the keyboard warrior above.

  3. Actually, Operation Barbarossa turned out to be a disaster for the Germans and by the fall of 1941 the German high command knew the war was lost. That did not stop them from fighting to the bitter end. See https://www.globalresearch.ca/operation-barbarossa-myths-and-reality/5748399
I doubt there is any general who has never lost a battle. One of Patton's strengths was his leadership ability and being able to motivate his troops, and at that he excelled.
Besides, the English had their hero, the Americans should have theirs. :-)

  5. I read A Soldiers Story a couple of summers ago, it's a long hard read but I learned alot. The more I read of WW2, Korea and Vietnam, the sadder and madder I become at the stupid decisions, our lack of preparation and propensity for throwing bodies at bullets. Very sad. The comments from Anonymous ring true to me -- Montgomery was a pompous fool but the Brits wanted their hero general and he was all too conceited to be it. And his statement that the Russians won the war was particularly pointed -- with our resources and their population, they did and conquered Eastern Europe for the next 40 years. Kind of like that the Communist Chinese won the war in the Pacific, if you think about it. SE Asia, Malaysia, the South China Sea, soon the Philippines, don't forget large parts of Africa, they are the big dog.

    1. The Chinese... 1) They have "cultural centers" everywhere, but they have little to do with spreading the concepts of Chinese culture. 2) They provide precursor products to the Mexican cartels so that they can manufacture fentanyl.

  7. I had an uncle who was 101st that got shot in the hip on D day. After months in the hospital and rehab he was reassigned to 3rd Army under Patton driving a supply truck. He thought there was no better general than Patton. He got his second Purple Heart at Bastogne.

    1. I certainly value a real warrior's opinion based on his experience versus an anonymous keyboard warrior trying to tell us how shitty Americans were in WW-2.,

  8. I had an Uncle that served with Patton and never got injured. I had another Uncle served on the Missouri on the gun that they signed the Japanese surrender and he never had a problem.

My Dad was the youngest and went in the Marines at 17 in 43 and into the Pacific into various places, but was severely injured on Okinawa and spent a year in a Naval Hospital before they gave him medical retirement. The Marines with going island to island had many D-days.

    1. And thousands and thousands of American trucks.
And the Germans moved their logistics with horses.

The Russians were able to put 100% into tanks, guns, and artillery.
