And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
According to Google: Drake Peak Lookout is perched on the crest of the North Warner Mountain Range. At a lofty elevation of 8,222 feet. Drake Peak is in the Warner Mountains near Lakeview, Oregon
Don't know where you were, but the ones at Sherman (1971 base for the jungle warfare school) were cinder cell blocks - crap for view - most of the time in triple canopy with 20 yards of view at best. Great cigars & coffee, though.
Don't they have firewatch cabins they let people stay in temporarily to help watch for smoke and fires? Never saw one this nice though. Not that it's 'nice' just better than most. I hear it's creepy af at night.
Lookout towers have largely been replaced by the ALERT camera system in the West. Some of the old lookouts are now recreational rentals that are very reasonably priced. But make your reservation early. They book up quickly.
But don't bother if being alone in the woods scares you. To me, that's a slice of heaven.

DeletePeople like you save up their "poop" and then go deposit it in the handicap stall at Home Depot, like all nasty illegals do.
Deletethere is no way I will sleep close enough to the fireplace for the blankets to slide off of the bed and catch fire
ReplyDeleteLooks like one of the BOQ dormitories I stayed at in the Panama canal zone back in the early 70's, the mosquito netting was the walls.

ReplyDelete#1 is off the railing. If it's #2 you'd better grab your roll and e-tool and start walking to your favorite spot far away from your living area.
