And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
When my wife got pregnant in the 80s we had a hard decision to make whether to live on my income or have two incomes and day care. The costs of day care were high and to go to one income caused us to give up many perks of eating out, having more social life, and my wife became a stay at home mom.
Same time frame here. My wife stayed home, schooled our son, then wrote a book on homeschooling. Rush Limbaugh interviewed her and she explained how it costs less for the wife to stay home and school her kids than to go to work. The numbers don't lie. That interview was printed in the WSJ in 1997.
I spent 30 years as a Teamster trucker. I could never get through my terminal managers head that even though I had hours left, I wanted to go home. As long as I made a day's pay, I was done. I didn't want to go someplace else to make more money. Every terminal manager I had told me he was going to fire me. Never worked. Outlasted them all.
On the other hand, I could tell you stories of guys that made a ton of money, were never home and complained constantly about wives cheating, sons and daughters waiting for bail money at the police station.

While true, the images show an affluence that is usually only attainable by a good salary.
ReplyDeleteAfter working 10-15 continuous years, why wouldn't someone have a good income?
DeleteRefer to the standard of living, and the costs, and the income of a family in 1960.
DeleteAnd the value of the dollar. Today the dollar has no worth.

ReplyDeleteAmen.
DeleteSomeone who's family was homeless and hungry might disagree with that sentiment.
