    1. I like splitting wood with an axe but I'm old and finally bought a splitter. 30 tons cares not about knots.

  2. When you are splitting Hedge (Osage Orange) in the winter you never stand over the wedge in a tight log because the log can "spit" the wedge strait up with significant force.

  3. Do NOT hit a metal wedge with a sledgehammer. I have a bb-sized piece of steel in my arm from doing that.

  4. Not so much for us. South Texas is land of mainly hardwoods and splitting rounds of wood is undertaken with a swung ax rather than wood splitter. The wood is often twisted too, making it harder to split. Batoning kindling and limbs is knife abuse down here.
