  1. I have owned a shorter one for 20 years or so with the exact same mechanism for grabbing the roots and a hickory handle. It was patented before WWI so Lee Valley calls it "Grampa's weeder". It works well on dandelions and other weeds with tap roots, after a good soaking rain you can pull the entire root out so the weed won't grow back.

    1. Made by the pop rivet industry, therefore industrial, not necessarily long lasting.

  3. If I want a particular plant to die, all I have to do is like it. Then it either commits suicide or packs up and leaves.

  4. You have an uncanny knack of finding tools that I would never need or use. That one right there has got to be on the top of the list.

  6. The rivet is generally weaker, and would fail about twice as fast as a screw under heavy use.
Should have been a bolt and nut.

Even smarter would be a T-handle at the top end, for actual leverage beyond just sweaty palms.
But Lazy and Stupid are apparently on every design board in the country, currently.

  8. Walden, "Original Weed Hound", is my tool. Solid, big step to push in the prongs, 90° handle twist them out.
