  2. The term octothorpe’s origins are a bit murky, but it’s often humorously attributed to telephone engineers from Bell Labs in the 1960s. They were looking for a more fanciful name for the # symbol on the telephone keypad, and “octothorpe” was born, with “octo-” referring to the eight points of the symbol, though the “-thorpe” part is a bit of a mystery.

  3. Nurdle? In my 1950s high school days that was a 140 I.Q. introverted, suspected gay dude with a shirt pocket pen protector holder, a slide rule in a belt leather holster, wearing tan chinos, penny loafers and bragging he’d just gotten his admittance letter from Yale.

  5. sort of looks like tic tac toe, my sister told me years ago about the eight pointsand also the person coming up with the name octothorpe was a fan of the sportsman Thorpe
