  2. It better have some power under the hood if you want to haul those bigass tires around.

  3. That thing is pretty darned cool. Here's the story-

"Barn Find! All Original Un-Restored 1966 Ford F600 4x4 Wrecker Truck Built Custom for Texaco Oil In Wyoming, 390 V8, Planetary Axles, Holmes Wrecker Unit."

  4. Hitch a 3 bottom plow to that ol girl and throw her in granny gear and I bet she'd pull.

  5. The gear ratio needed to turn those big tires and do its job pretty much guarantees that it doesn't have a very high top speed.

    1. It wasn't built for speed, as indicated by its 'planetary axles'. That would be axles with gear reduction at the wheels, much like a log skidder or off-highway dump truck would have.

  6. Tire size is just part of the overall "gear ratio" transferring engine torque to the "push" on the ground. Picking the right planetary gear (or differential gears, or other gears) can result in the same "push" and speed as the original tire/original gears did.
