Dodge Madness

  1. In 1962 My father bought a 1945 Dodge truck just like this one except it was black. He paid $200 for it. Apparently it was made during the war as it had no chrome, the hood ornament was made of soybean plastic, and the only stainless steel was for the key lock on the passenger door and ignition. It was a beautiful little truck with a flathead six, so simple, so functional. he finally sold it in 1978 for $800 and it only had 82,000 miles on it. I’d sure like to get it back.

    1. There was no civilian production during the war.

  2. I had a five window ‘48 chevy, ex-tow, no bed, more leaves in the rear springs than I can honestly comment on, and half a Miller High Life can as a gas cap.what damn fun it was.

  3. Heh. That's the very first vehicle I drove. Thanks Grandpa! Floor starter. Perfect size for an 8 year old kid, with a folded horse blanket to boost me up a bit.
Cant remember if the floor shift was 3 or 4 speeds, cuz I never got out of second gear....
