Wonder if the pilot is still there

  1. I wonder if that is Willey Post's plane?

  2. Looks like it's sitting on it's landing gear. Tossed over the side of a carrier?

    1. Or intentionally placed there perhaps for diver’s enjoyment and artificial reef…

  3. I know a fellow from the Phillipines who was hired to assemble a DC-3 from parts of three crashed DC-3s, strip the paint and then shoot it full of holes. All this was done on a barge and then the plane was pushed off the barge so that scuba diving tourists could dive the wreck of the 'shot down' plane.
Given the lack of damage I wonder if this isn't another manufactured diving attraction.

  4. Looks like a Buffalo P-36..they where a Pre- War design and only active during the first year of WWII and had a 3 bladed prop. The 4 bladed prop shown was not implemented on a few fighters (F4F, F8U, P-47 & P-51) until 1944-45

  5. That's my plane after I shot down 27 Zeros before the engine conked out and I made a perfect water landing, even water skied a ways behind her. Brian Williams

  6. It COULD be a n image produced by artificial intelligence. A little too perfect...

    1. My thought precisely.

    2. That's a lot of intact yellow paint on an 80 year old fighter.

  7. That's an odd plane. A curious mix of old and new.
Some features suggest post WWII. 4 blade prop on a radial engine, tricycle landing gear.
The canopy looks to be older style as it's made of a bunch of separate panels rather than formed perspex.
Single seat so that suggests it's not a trainer.
No obvious weapons like machine gun or cannons.
Google and Tineye searches yield no hits.
Could be AI as somebody suggested.

  8. I'm voting for AI too. There are too many little things wrong:
    - Hardly any sponges on horizontal surfaces
    - Tricycle landing gear
    - Prop angle is pointed down compared to the engine
    - No stencils on any of the blades
    - Top and bottom blade markings don't match
    - One big exhaust port on left side? I'd expect to see more.
    - Canopy looks like an ME109 with split front

  9. It also seems to be sitting on some sort of deck.

  10. Post in the middle of the windshield? On a fighter?

    1. Me 109 had that setup, so yes.. Remember, AI just picks elements to match the request, it can create a design that looks like an airplane but can't assess specific features.

  11. Does look a little too pristine, like you could bring it up, clean it out and fly off with it

  12. Look at the rear of the plane. The tail section is rounded (would be flat on a real plane), the rudder is too small, and the elevators are way to big. Midjourney or Dall-E for sure.
