And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Painfully loud. Had friends that lived in a 3 story apartment bldg next to a volunteer fire dept - the siren was located on the roof of the apartments. At least it's slow windup before it gets really bad.
I still wish I'd grabbed a couple of air raid sirens back when they were tearing the things out right and left.
That's the sort of thing you buy if you have an obnoxious HOA you need to properly wind up. Only thing better is a remote-controlled set of train horns hidden inside a trailer, or a dummy street utility box.
Chrysler hemi air raid siren, from the Cold War era, industrial 180 hp. hemi powering up the siren's main rotor. 2,610 cfm at almost 7 psi, produced an ear-splitting sound level of 138 dB at 100 FEET away from the unit. Essentially the highest level of sound produced ever from a man-made device, all info here (plus sound recordings): www.victorysiren.org
When I was in college the loudest WWII era air raid siren in Los Angeles was still mounted on the roof of the old physics building. For fun I would occasionally turn it on.
It's got a Hemi!
ReplyDeleteHope it was used as a warning for something important!
ReplyDeleteGot a problem with an a-hole neighbor? Point this baby in their general direction and fire it up at 3am. Heh.
