And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Guess what I just ripped up on the front porch while sitting in the sun about 2 hours ago? That's right, Cuisinart vanilla ice cream. Much less expensive than the store bought stuff and much more flavorful too. I was surprised. We have the small white unit and it makes enough for 4 substantial servings.
Here's the skinny. Use half n half rather than whipping cream as the process and flavor is the same but the cost is about half. 2 cups of half n half, 1 cup of milk, 3/4 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon of vanilla.
The freezing vat must be kept in a zero degree freezer until ready to use. I made a paper plate cover for the top to thwart stuff from getting in it, dust, ice, etc. After making the ice cream the freezer vat must be completely thawed before putting it back in the freezer otherwise the freezing liquid could freeze lopsided and be an issue. Freeze it while sitting upright, not on it's side or upside down.
I blend the ingredients in a blender then sit the blender in the fridge for a day. This makes soft serve style ice cream. I spoon it out of the freezer vat and put it in a lidded rubbermade and then into the freezer for a day to harden up. Yeah, there's a process but it's worth it to me cause we don't have a store right down the road and we don't eat ice cream every day. So it works well for us. I've made chocolate too, excellent, but I didn't use the cuisinart recipe. I did once and didn't care for the flavor or texture. Next up will be some pineapple sherbet.
