And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Not to be a safety p*ssy, but shooting steel that close is a good way to get hurt with bullet splatter. I was the recipient of some Win 30-30 back splatter in my stomach once- it was not a good time.
No kidding. I was shooting my single action army clone caliber .45 regular with big soft lead bullets at an indoor range and caught some back splatter right above my right eye. Bled like crazy and hurt like hell. Had saftey glasses on but a half inch lower and I would have tested them. The chunk of lead bounced off and landed on that little bench indoor range lanes have. Had a long conversation with myself about whether or not that was an indoor range kind of gun. On another point - when my sons were in high school I found myself in the business of taking teenage girls to the range with us. We would have a safety briefing before we went and I would lay down the law. Fully clothed, full t shirts with sleeves and regular necklines, no midriffs, hats or tied back hair. They were all great kids and watching someone do the hot brass down the shirt dance is not my idea of fun. Some of those girls did so well they earned the right to borrow a gun if they get an opportunity to go shooting or hunting.
I want one of those target systems!! Nice shooting, but a better strategy would be to side step while drawing to get the hell out of the way and not get run over, with the added benefit of disrupting the charging attacker's thought processes and buying a bit more time to deal with the problem. The grip of that gun appears to be too big for her hands - the recoil impulse is coming back into her second thumb joint instead of in the middle of the web of her hand - if that's the case, she'll get arthritis in her thumb if she shoots a lot while holding the gun that way. Anonymous, it's really hard to be a safety p*ssy when it comes to gun safety - agree with your point completely.
I too have been hit by lead off steel - not fun, bled like a wee piggy - it was a club open day, someone shot a 9mm obliquely at a steel plate not in their row, and the ricochet got me, in the neck, Bit of a surprise, thought I had been stung by a bee till I saw the blood.
That's a sturdy lass, with a healthy head of hair, and she isn't afraid of a little bang, bang - fearless! Plus she likes challenging sports with a little danger thrown in. Wife material!
Drawing from an open carry race holster to mag dump on a man-sized target at 2 yards isn't impressive but I see what this drill is trying to get at, sort of a Tueller drill.
So how many shots did she fire? (don't guess - try to count them - I did). Again - that is not a steel target. It looks like lightweight foam filled poster board - it if was steel you could never accelerate and stop it that quickly because it would tip over.

DeleteIf she's ever attacked by a piece of steel mounted on wheels she's ready.
ReplyDeleteIf smart she is using frangible ammo to prevent spalling.

An interesting drill I hate yet to try is having someone (well) upstream release balloons and shoot them as they randomly twitter down the water.
DeleteThat is not steel - it's cardboard. Look at the holes.......
