  2. Better than nothing I would guess but only in an extreme situation. With a threshold of 100mr/hour you could receive a significant dose and never know it. The current environmental limit for "radiation areas" is a maximum of 5mr/hr. The maximum permissible dose for occupational workers is 5000mr for an entire year. I prefer an actual dose meter that is detects a much lower threshold plus I have an old school Civil Defense Geiger Muller device that would be more suitable to a post nuclear attack scenario.
