The Oscars has been hit by the biggest scandal in its 94-year history after violence broke out on stage when Will Smith stormed up to host Chris Rock and slapped him for making a joke about his wife's hair just minutes before the crowning moment of his career when he won Best Actor.
There are already calls for the star, 53, to be stripped of the award hours after becoming only the fifth black actor in history to collect the biggest prize in Hollywood for his portrayal of Richard Williams, the father who raised tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams, in 'King Richard'.
In a rambling acceptance speech a sobbing Smith admitted that 'love makes you do crazy things' - but tellingly failed to apologise to Rock for his assault, only apologising to Academy and his fellow nominees. Rock has told LAPD he will not press charges.

ReplyDeleteI saw what kind of racist "King Richard" was when I was in Melbourne for the 08 Australian Open. Because a couple matches went way over their anticipated time, officials asked Serena if she would play in the No. 2 court instead of Centre Court. The slurs and insults that poured out of the Williams' camp from pops were disgusting. To this day I'm a Williams sister hater, all of them can FOAD.

ReplyDeleteI don't think this was anything more than a publicity stunt. The oscars ratings have been tanking for several years. Hollywood is arrogant enough to believe they can insult half of the population and get away with it, this hubris is finally catching up with them. Plus, Will Smith's movie (who he won the award) is not doing as well as expected. The hopes are that people will have interest now. And, who really believes anything politicians (both sides), the media and hollywood tells you? We're being played again.....

The real joke is that as mad as Will Smith supposedly was, the best he could manage was a slap that was immediately laughed about by Chris Rock. If Smith was anything more than the tough guy actor he plays, Rock would have been picking himself up off the floor....after a couple minutes. Weak, Will. Weak.

Then today I read that (a) Smith is in an open marriage, where his wife reportedly speaks publicly about her extramarital couplings, sometimes with Smith sitting right there, and (b) here allopecia is due to having corn rows for too long, too tight - a common outcome for people who indulge the hairstyle.
