And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It doesn't look altered. Just has the engine set back at least 2 feet. That mod used to be somewhat common in that time. This one didn't even have the intake poking thru the windshield, so not a full on setback. I once tried to buy a '65 Mustang that had a slight engine setback (for a BBC), and a tube front axle. Saw it in South Jersey. Guy wouldn't sell it after learning that I intended to put it on the street in CA. No faith in his workmanship, I suppose.
Been a long time since I saw a stock one. Friend in highschool had one that he bought from the original owner in '69/70, that held the NHRA stock class record. IIRC, it ran a 12.29, but don't remember the speed. Tri-power 389, 4spd. Blew the record by near a second, I think. That car would absolutely stomp a 4bbl 389. He was told that the inspectors expected to find some sort of fraud inside the engine during teardown, and it turned out to be untouched from the factory. The only mod we found was the linkage for the secondary carbs had the slot closed up, so they opened earlier than normal.
In 1965 my neighbor's son got a new GTO. After he broke it in he let me drive it. I will never forget when the 3 Two's kicked in on the freeway. Ah, good times.
Altered wheelbase too. Seems like Mickey Thompson made some hemi heads for the big Pontiac.
ReplyDeleteThe MoPars were the best though.
Heroes of my childhood.

Altered, indeed. Compare the rear wheel location with any photo of a stock goat.
DeleteAlmost made enough room up front to marry two of those engines together at the crank.
DeleteOh, it's altered, all right: 10" reduction in wheelbase. Front section of frame kicked up, too. Quite a car. Cracked the 8's.
