New Worlds

  1. Nice art, but these ringworlds need to surround a central star and I am not seeing it.

    1. There's some artistic license there. That said, maybe the artist is contrasting Bishop Rings (2,000km diameter) with Banks Orbitals (1,000,000km diameter) with the Ringworld (2 Astronomical Units diameter).

Bishop rings are actually doable given current tech, especially if one doesn't insist on a full 2,000km diameter. I'd be content with 500km diameter and 200km axial length (314,000km^2 interior surface area).

    2. PS: Only the Ringworld requires a central star. The others can use alternate lighting arrangements.
