And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Pratt & Whitney J-58 Engine for the SR-71 with 30,000 lbs. of thrust each (x2) and capable of Mach 3 + (over 2,000 miles per hour / 33 miles per minute / 3,000 feet per second)
Watched one take off and land at Beale in 1974. Standing at the 4000 yard marker on the runway it literally knocked us on our butts. And with a climb angle of around 70' it just vanished into the sky. The only other noise I've heard even remotely that loud was a Bachman Turner Overdrive concert. Maybe why I have this raging case of tinnitus today.
