Drivers may want to avoid the Deception Pass Bridge this afternoon in Washington state. A semi truck tipped over in the high winds sweeping across the pass and is blocking traffic. Gusts were reported up to 56 mph in the area.
And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
HOME!
ReplyDeleteI was just there, in early June. The bridge was undergoing repairs (sand blasting, I think) The tide was coming in and made for an impressive surge. Yeah, the pucker factor for that driver must be insane!
ReplyDeleteRecently sandblasted and painted. The engineering necessary to contain that structure for painting was convoluted, to say the least.
DeleteBankrupted a company about halfway through the project.
I drove over that bridge once, that is some drop.
ReplyDelete180 foot clearance.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't care for that one, you might want to avoid the Lewis & Clark Bridge over the Columbia at Longview -- 197 feet.
Usta drive that bridge a lot, on the way to Chuckanut Drive in my '67 Healy Sprite. Good times, good memories..
ReplyDeleteBeen through that pass many times in a boat, barely making headway! Drove over the bridge too many times to count. There is a small island in the middle, closer to the north side, that connects the two spans. Used to climb down and fish for monster cod! Good place to view Killer Whales, also.
ReplyDeleteYeah, PTSD - Post Traumatic Sh*t Himself Disorder.
ReplyDeleteThe pic doesn't do justice to how high that bridge is.
ReplyDeleteBeen over it a time or two.
ReplyDeleteGreat views.
I live near the Foresthill Bridge in NorCal. 730 feet high. Highest in CA and 4th highest in the US. We used to toss DOT barricades with the flashing orange lights off of it when I was a lad. You’d get about three blinks in the drop and they looked like 100’ long orange glow sticks. Lots of fun.
