  2. They were still using what they called "Lazy Dogs" as recently as Viet Nam. I had a table at a gun show one time and the guy next to me had a bucket full of them selling them like crazy for $1.00 each. They looked like tiny bombs about an inch and half long. Anyway that's what he said they were, I never really checked that story out. All I know is that everybody who walked past that table had to have one.

    1. Yes, that is what they were. Wikipedia has a good article on the Lazy Dog bomblets.

  3. Those are likely German flechettes intended to send a message to the poilus because their stamped words are "FRENCH INVENTION" and "GERMAN MANUFACTURE."

  4. Had a buddy that reloaded 12 gauge shotgun shells and bought a bunch of the small fletchettes to stuff them with. What they did to a rabbit at 10 yards......

  5. Are there any statistics to tell us how many actual casualties these caused in WWI?

    1. Nothing like the body count for the Maxim Family. Daddy invented the first really industrial machine gun. Jr. invented the silencer.
