And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I think I remember it was a test of a failed Chinese design - the boat's too short or something. It's pretty old. One of the reasons this kind of lifeboat was developed was for the oil industry's offshore platforms in the North Sea. The idea is that it drops very quickly, goes underneath the water for a short distance and returns to surface, all with a forward velocity that takes it away from the facility, which would be on fire or having a blowout. It's designed to get you away from the danger using only gravity. Of course now they use them on ships as well. Maintaining lifeboats is one of the most dangerous activities there is, offshore. Every year there are fatalities with failed davits or release mechanisms as people work on them.
Looks effective for a lifeboat launch from a sinking ship. I want to know if the hull will stop 7.62mm rounds from a Somali pirate vessel where the crew is armed with AK-47s. I humbly await your reply. Regards, Captain Phillips.
I don't know about the neg comments. Looked to me like it worked perfectly. And a front flip besides, but best ridden out with some kind of awesome shoulder harness setup, sort of racecar-style.......
Some years back, SOLAS required all Tanker life boats need to enclosed, power driven and put in the water as shown. That was a test, and there were people aboard the life boat. Probably the Captain and Chief Engineer. I'm told that it is exciting and safe.
I can imagine the carnival ride puke storm inside as it flops all over. no thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat's what the seatbelts are for. You better be strapped in.

ReplyDeleteLaunch the life boat and then board the life boat?
ReplyDeleteIf those abandoning ship boarded before launch it would be called a death boat.
Women and children first. They wouldn't get on the second one after watching that.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the 'loading' was? Light or heavy?
ReplyDeleteI'd guess light, no weight or simulated passengers.
There are a bunch of YouTube videos of people buying cheap used enclosed lifeboats and converting them to houseboats. Pretty cool project.

ReplyDeleteA strong positive righting moment from the center of buoyancy being way above the center of gravity.
