And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Hauling a big yellow pine log down a hill, Fresno County, CA, 1919.
Near as I can figure with my handy-dandy protractor that grade is 50%, give or take. The steepest haul road I've ever dealt with in the woods was 27%. It was a difficult road to water as you could only do it going downhill (the landing was at the top) and the water being sprayed tended to outrun you. Fun times!
