I'm old enough

  1. Should have Firestone 500's to make it complete.

  2. My first car was a ‘72 Pinto.

When the story broke about them exploding when rear ended, it was amazing how many people stopped tailgating!

  3. I had a buddy with a similar paint job on a Mercury Lynx in the early 80's. He drove it until the original drive-train died and he shoe-horned a 302/aod4 into the car and drove it till the early 90's where it died with over 300K miles. It sits rusting in his back yard where he has threatened to drop another 5.0/AOD back down into it. He is in a 97 Extended Cab Ford Ranger with a 5.0 4x4 out of an 99 Explorer now.

  4. I had one in high-school. The drivers seat was moved back 6 inches, so I could use the clutch. LOL
We had a lot of fun in that deathtrap

  5. Lee Iaccoca, project engineer.

Friend had one in high school, he high-centered it and scraped the oil pan off, didn't know enough to shut it down.

  6. Yeah we can thank ol' Lee for that one. Oddly enough their body shells were widely used in the modified sportsmen division in oval track racing.

  7. There may be another explanation for the reversed flames. IIRC, that body was more aerodynamic going backward.

Have a sister that got a ride home from school by one of her teachers. Teacher's Pinto got rearended a block after dropping her off, and she died when the car burned. My sister refused to ride in a Pinto after that.

  8. But it's OK if there's a chrome gas cap. That was part of the fix.
