And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Reminds me a lot of where I grew up except ours was a G.C.Murphy that we always just called the "five & ten". I spent a lot of time and most of my money in there rooting through the 3 for $1 cutout record bin. Then head down the block to the tobacco store for a pack of English Ovals that my buddies and I thought were really cool at the time. Or I'd head up the other way to the Western Auto for a box or two of .22 LR for a round of plinking. I think they were about $.35/box at the time. No one would even give a second glance at a 13 or 14 year old walking around smoking and carrying a rifle. How times have changes.....
We moved around a little bit so I remember Woolworth but also Kresge and Ben Franklin too. It was a family event to go Sears though. That was the big time - you were at the top.
You'll shoot your eye out.

ReplyDeleteAs a little boy, I remember the F.W. Woolworths on Washington Ave. It's gone now, like so many of the good things we had.
ReplyDeleteLord, how I miss those days. What Henry Lee said.
