And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Is there still room for essentials such as rations, lots of water, medical kit, pioneer tools, communications, weapons, ammunition, et cetera (which is how the Army trained me to ALWAYS travel when going to the field)?
Someone should write a book.....'The up and down side of rock climbing'...where the fist pages have the smiling faces of those just starting out in the sport with matching photos of the same people after they face-planted from 500'. That might cut down on the 'nutcase-enthusiasm'!
be critical all you can but to be remembered is the fact that they did carry all that crap up the hill. I wouldn't want to be asleep on that when the earthquake hit.

How do they backpack, unpack, and repack all of that equipment when climbing, and how do they set it up and take it down to stow it again?

That's why I always went to the field in a M-577, room to carry everything I needed/wanted.
