Golden, or Syrian Hamsters are not in the least bit nasty. If patience is taken to tame them from a young age they are the most engaging, interesting and gentle souls and the perfect pet for children and adults a like. Try and rush their taming, or be heavy handed and they will treat you with the contempt you deserve and sink their needle sharp teeth into you at every opportunity. I have had several and never yet been bitten.
In Peru and other Andean countries, guinea pigs are called “cuy” (coo-ee). Considered a delicacy dating to Inca times if not before, cuy is prepared roasted or fried and served with potatoes. In the cathedral located in Cuzco, Peru there is a 1753 painting of the “Last Supper”. Front ‘n center being served up is a cuy. Provecho!
Cute.
