And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

1969 Mercury Cyclone - I have no memory of such a car, so they must be super rare now.
Frame off restoration of a "Cale Yarborough" special. He probably spent more than 65k and is taking a loss. Wonderful job on the car, though. Its almost certainly the best and cleanest in existence.
I remember seeing a "Cale Yarborough Special" in a junkyard off the side of the highway south of my hometown in Southwest Kansas. There was a '67 383 Charger, a '70 Nova, and a few other old muscle cars. Always wanted that 67 Charger....it was beautiful except for a crumpled right front fender. The "Special" was raped of all its drive train but the shell and interior were intact.
Worked at a Goodyear in Ft. Walton Beach in '69....serviced a Cyclone with a 428 Cobra Jet owned by a guy in the Air Force....in those days, after a front end alignment we got to test drive....it was a thrill....some things just stay in your memory....
This car is the reason the Daytona and the Superbird were developed. Mopar needed just 5mph to consistently beat the Ford. That meant another 55 HP from the Hemi and that was not going to happen. They had to make the Charger more aerodynamic to get the 5mph. The winged warriors were wind tunnel tested in Wichita at Beechcraft.
I had much the same: https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sJolDg_s2Kw/Wo9NnmvraSI/AAAAAAAAPpU/yjFk20PLfqI9b4oE8kN1TmOa3mgo8a96wCLcBGAs/s1600/%252769%2BTorino.jpg My '68 428, 4 speed Torino which I bought for $1,200 and pulled my trailer across the country and back.
Evidently one of 500 made in this model. Currently offered on Hemmings for $65,000.

essentially a glorified Ford Torino.
ReplyDeleteMercury version of the Ford Torino Talledega.
ReplyDelete1969, Wow. Mercury was way ahead of the curve for ugly 70's cars.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of ugly, anyone remember the AMC Matador?

Cross between a Torino, a Rebel, and a Marlin.
