And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The Supercharger is at THE BACK of the aircraft and is almost as big as the R-2800 you are looking at. That's what made that thing go most of 8 tons net. The max gross at take off with full fuel and weapons could exceed 12 tons. It could lift almost as much as the AD-1 Skyraider. Its big drawback as a bomb truck was its range and how low it sat when on the ground. Look at how little clearance the prop and belly have. ALL takeoff and landings were "three point" lest you bight the cement. --Ray
An amazing piece of machinery! The turbo-supercharger is brilliant.

DeleteP47 Thunderbolt, ground support and interdiction duties at the end of the war. 4 bladed prop to take advantage of all that horsepower.
