And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
"She looks feminine. That is hard to find now..." My first thought in almost exactly the same words. There's the trouble, too, of finding someone who looks feminine but does not comport herself as a lady. It is even harder to find a true lady.
Though, I have learned from making a few inferences regarding some women's backgrounds and how they comport themselves that unladylike behavior seems to stem largely from family difficulties, especially with their fathers, and other related trauma. A law school classmate-becoming-friend and I were talking last night, and while she is generally feminine and very attractive in her appearance, her language and at times attitudes are not what I would call ladylike. Based on what she was saying about some of her family background, I'm going to guess it comes largely from that. It's sad and troubling, but God redeems, too.
Better then, guys were thinner, and didn't wear flip flops, t shirts, and baggy shorts to church. They could usually get a point across without dropping the F bomb. (actually the same goes for most women).
Most of today's women remind me of H.L. Mencken's perhaps-apocryphal remark to Alistair Cooke on being accosted in his room by proto-feminists at a political convention in the '20s:
"Makes you want to burn every bed in town, doesn't it?"
I have no doubt the "men" I see on the street inspire identical longings in grown women.
Yeah, the pine paneling was cool.
ReplyDeleteHow about that what appears to be that wire record holder on the bottom shelf? Cool!

ReplyDeleteI guess I'm just ignorant. My first thought was "Oh, I'm pretty sure she was better then."
ReplyDeleteHillary Rodman as a 50's teenybopper spinning a Bill Haley & the Comets platter? If so much better back in the Twilight Zone.
ReplyDeleteBetter then. Today's women are fat, fat, fat.
ReplyDeleteYes, of course better then. All the above reasons plus the one most casually ignored:
ReplyDeleteI was younger.
