  2. And the smell and sight as well. They laid down a long black trail and it smelled amazing. First time I saw the 'Birds they were flying these!

    2. Same here the Thunderbirds came to the local SAC base about 50 years ago.

  3. Fuel consumption and the oil crisis in the early 70's ended this proud bird's future with the T Birds and the Blues....not to mention the smaller replacements were easier to maneuver in tight spaces....

  5. Saw this plane at the Pima Air Museum last Friday in Tucson, Arizona. It is bigger than it looks in person.

  6. There are currently three of those flying. Two are up for civilian sale. At least five more are in civilan ownership and awaiting restoration. Average cost 3.9 million for a ready to go F-4E or F. Cost per flight hour around one million dollars.---Ray
