And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Could've been worse, but bad enough
Don Garlits in Swamp Rat XIII at Lions, March 8 1970
Catastrophic clutch explosion tore the car in half, severed several toes and left Garlits with a permanent limp.
Actually it was not the clutch that failed. It was the two speed Lenco transmission that exploded. You can check out the story from Big Daddy's own mouth. http://www.roadkill.com/big-daddy-don-garlits-restores-swamp-rat-13-the-dragster-that-almost-killed-him/
The next time you’re near Ocala, Florida, check out the Don Garlits museum on I-75. Some fascinating stuff for gear heads and a drool-worthy classic car collection.
After this incident Big Daddy Don put the engine behind him and started the rear engine era.
