And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Been there - it's a nice landmark. Also been to the southernmost point in the whole US - Southpoint, on the Big Island. Even more scenic than Key West, IMHO, but both are better than whatever the northernmost point is!
In the 1980s My mother lived in Marathon a short walk from Sombrero Beech for a number of years and, of course I spent many vacations there rent free. My hang-outs were Sloppy Joe's, Capt. Tony's (The original Hemmingway slopchute) and sunset on Mallory pier now for ascetic touristy reasons "Sunset Pier". Memories
Been there many times, but the last time was about 47 years ago when I graduated high school.
Growing up in Miami, as soon as someone hit driving age, the three-day weekend camping trips to the keys started. Diving all day, spearfishing, grabbing lobster, it was the life. The funny thing is we all thought adult life would be like that. I don't think it was for any of us.
Yes'r, Been there, done that also. USN at NAS Key West RVAH 12 77-79 Great place to lay in the sun, dive/snorkel/spear fish & fresh lobster right off the beach at Truman Annex. Amazed we lived in the barracks & on the beach! Young dumb and full of..next to the female barracks. If I knew then what I knew now..Haven't been back.
