And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
A friend of mine years ago who worked at a local British import dealer told me that the #1 problem with American owners of Jaguars was that they didn't maintain the oil level in the engine. It had to be checked and filled at least weekly, or the crank and bearings suffered.
True enough. I had an Austin American. I was always messing around with it. Tranny was in the crankcase. Crazy. Great car- fun to drive. Cross between the mini and mgb.
I would highly recommend a series of books by Burt Levy. The first is called "The Last Open Road" Set in the 50s, and the start of road racing in the US. Highly addictive, if you like MGs, Jags, and Ferraris.
Old Jags are like hot blondes - They both require a lot of maintenance......
ReplyDeleteIt is getting harder and harder to find a NOS "Lucas Replacement Wiring Harness Smoke Kit" to keep Jags like that working.

ReplyDeleteLike radial engines. If they're leaking a lot of oil when not running, you've hot a problem. If it's not leaking oil, you're out of oil.
DeleteOld saying....If you're not a mechanic before you buy a British car, you will be when you get rid of it.
ReplyDeleteLucas, lord of darkness :-).
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteWhen I had my '77 MGB I replaced every Lucas component I could with a Bosch equivalent.
DeleteA little spendy, but well worth it.
