  1. I believe this is what W flew in the ANG, TX.

  2. No @ sykes1 Bush flew the F-106. That is a pre production F-102, before they discovered the "wasp waist" to enhance super sonic flight. The pre production F-102 could barely break mach 1. Also the later F-102's and F-106's had a MUCH different canopy.---Ray

    1. Actually, the YF-102 couldn't break Mach 1 in level flight. Also, the Texas ANG flew F-102s, not F-106s.

  3. This is probably a YF-102, the USAF used the Y prefix to denote pre-production aircraft that were being tested. Also the Convair marking would never be allowed on a service aircraft. The prototype YF-102 was marked FC-994 and this is FC-782.

The F-102A had the coke-bottle fuselage that allowed it to break the sound barrier.

  5. When I was a kid in Sault Ste Marie MI we heard sonic booms nearly daily from F-102/F-106 fighters at nearby Kincheloe AFB.
