Preparing to rise into the starry skies

  1. I remember a 6:00 PM landing at Elmendorf AFB a week before Christmas '81 when it was -40° or below and the sky was so clear you could see everything. Of course, if you didn't blink for a few seconds, lights developed rays as (I think) the layer of fluid on the surface of the eye started to freeze. That was common when I was a little kid there, but not so much these years. I think it will be common again soon in the natural cycle of things. Not that my in-laws or such can be swayed by facts. I'm lucky that my wife is apparently an alien pod-child or an elven changeling. ;^)
