Iceland

  1. Is that a black sand beach or is just the lighting? With all the volcanoes I don't see why is wouldn't be... Another reason to visit!

  2. Have you ever been to Iceland? I was fascinated by the place until I went there. 1st trip I traveled further and further north, stopping at many small towns. One cool thing was no matter how small a town, every one had a hot spring/pool and all were very clean. I finally reached the northern most point on the island which was home to a gazillion ravenous black flies. I stayed for about 2 seconds.

2nd trip was a weekender on my way to Scotland so I stayed in Reykjavik intending to eat as much salmon as possible. Come to find out, almost all of the salmon available is farmed plus I had the most unpleasant local dish called hariki which is a mush of fermented shark-I think they bury it too for a nice dirt flavor thrown on top of it.

Next trip I had a bit more time and went bar hopping-drinking there almost rivals Ireland-and I gotta say these people are dyed in the wool communists. They bow down to the sacrament of abortion, worship government and fence off their roofs on high buildings.

This last time I was there was in Jan so I had the great pleasure of seeing the sun rise at about 10 and set around 3. Well actually, I never saw the sun that trip, it was cloudy 24/7.

One flight in we got to see the Aurora Borealis which is cool, so there was that. And the women can be quite striking.

  3. Reminds me of the black sand beaches of the Aleutians.

    1. We knew an Icelandic-origin family on Adak. The father was a Navy CT. They commented more than once how much the Aleutians reminded them of home (the parents, not their kids, who were pure American).

  4. the spot is actually called black beach. lived there for a few years. dyed in the wool communists doesn't say the half of it. they used to be just socialists, but they ran out of other peoples money. the land of the $25,000.00 1976 Ford Granada taxi cab and the $25.00 cup of coffee. 100% import duty on almost everything.
It is all that, but the summers are beautiful and they have a new crop of gorgeous women every year. the fishing is the best. they have no clue about making a decent beer. the vodka comes direct from Russia. and you wouldn't believe how nice the wool products are.
kind of like California without the sun.
