And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
After a long day of diving back in the 80's, I was sitting on the deck of a boat in Bimini harbor one evening, having dinner of fresh snapper, conch and lobster. It was one of the most beautiful nights - no wind, flat sea, full moon. Heard a rumble and a bevy of about half a dozen fairly small boats with fairly big motors came into the marina and docked, the crews disembarking into the nearby bar. After a few minutes, heard a much louder rumble and a 'go fast' boat like the one in the picture comes burbling into the marina and ties up next to us. The two guys on that boat disembark and go into the bar. A few minutes after that, everyone from the boats come out, and as one of the guys from the go fast walks by, I say to him, "Hey Senor - nice night to go to Miami!" He looks up at me, flashes a toothy grin, complete with a couple of gold front teeth, and says, "Si, Senor - nice night to make lots of money!!" Everyone gets in their boats and roar out of the marina. After a few minutes, the wakes dissipate, the roar subsides and calm is restored to a beautiful moonlit night in the Bahamas.
It's a great way to get drugs from Cuba to the US.
