And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I remember those from the late 60's. They were one of the most successful kit cars that I can recall. It started with a fiberglass bucket that you dropped over a VW frame and ended with endless customization at a reasonable cost.
When I left the AF in 1971 I was discharged in NY State. Bought a 1952 VW bug with natural air conditioning (big holes in the floorboards from all the salt on the roads,) drove it around 12,000 miles ziz-zagging across the USA back to my home in CA.
By the time I arrived, my $140 VW wasn't running too good anymore, so I put an ad in the local paper for $150, expecting to get maybe $75. It sold immediately for $150, as stupid me didn't know everybody wanted VWs to make dune buggies out of! (I could probably have sold it for $300, nobody cared about the body, headlights, bumpers... sigh.)
