And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Men die earlier than women, often by 8-12 years, depending on location. Men do not have any time to waste. Not only should women hold doors for men, serve men first at meal time, but women now need to open all their own jars, doors, cans and change their own tires.
Interestingly, I bring this fact up, and women don't care one bit that med die early. They simply call me a complainer.
Hahaha! I wish I'd seen that a couple of weeks ago. We were interviewing for a new office admin, and one applicant (who otherwise seemed very sharp and capable) gave me a little tutorial about Oppressive vs Benign Patriarchy, and how they were BOTH oppressive, only the Benign version was sneaky.
Back in the mid-'60s, while I was attending university, I had to wait for a friend outside the main library building. Sitting on a bench across from the main door, which was a large double-door, I observed different sets of people going into the library.
Almost inevitably, when a man and a woman approached at roughly the same time, the man would hold the door open for the woman; sometimes he was thanked, other times not. But- when two men approached simultaneously, each man would gesture that the other man should enter; they were both being polite, but it was a contest. Eventually one man would give up and enter, while the smiling winner held the door open for him. Sometimes the back-and-forth went on for a long time, if both men were determined to be victorious. I thought, "the age of chivalry is not dead."
None of that happened when two women came up at the same time. Now it was a contest of who could get through the door quickest, and it seemed to me that if they could've slammed the door in the face of their rival, they would have; each woman ignored the other woman as if no one were there at all. It was amazing to watch! It's also very hard to get the door open, while pushing someone else out of the way.
It was fascinating, and I could've watched for hours. I learned more about psychology right there & then than I did taking classes for 2 years!

Notice that they use the word "women" and not the word "Lady", there is a difference.

ReplyDeleteMy sister used to say, "Chivalry, not sexism."
