  1. Nice. The workhorse of Viet-Nam. Beautiful flyer, and built by Republic. A flying tank.

And too many planes and flyers were thrown away by that bastard LBJ and his butt-buddies.

    2. Fuzzy from the angle of the photo, but my bet would be SUU-20 practice bomb dispensers...

  3. Gotta love the Thud!

In the design of the A-10s they looked at Thunderchiefs (Republic being part of Fairchild by then). They found many Thunderchiefs had returned to base despite horrific damage, but in other cases, Thunderchiefs were brought down by small arms fire. In examining the Thindercheif's design, they found that in parts of the aircraft, the main and back-up hydraulic lines were an inch apart. With that knowledge, the A-10 was designed to avoid those kinds of issues.

  4. There's a nice example at the air museum at Dallas Love Field, and there is also one at the Fort Worth Aviation Museum (a nice museum with a FAC section that's worth looking at, as well as the only mock-up of the A-12 Avenger Advanced Tactical Aircraft)
