And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

When you blow a fuse and you're 40 miles out on the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, you do what you have to do.
especially have to commend this use of the ring connector on the buss hookup. nothing like a bit of corrosion to increase the load on the generator and keep the wiring nice and toasty
Gotta just love the Black Rock! 90 miles from my front door......I work for the Sheriff's office Search and Rescue team in Washoe County.......after almost 30 years of doing this, I can tell you horror stories of what that place can do to man and vehicles....specially when it gets wet!
I've had enough old Ford trucks and Little British cars over the years that I just got to the point of yanking the fuses out and installing self resetting circuit breakers in and being done with it. You can get them at NAPA and they are a direct replacement.
Better idea... how about carrying extra fuses, especially if you are out in the desert?
ReplyDeleteHey, no joke! It's always best to think ahead.
Deletenothing like a pair of 300 amp and one 800 fuses to back up the blown 15 amp fuses

ReplyDeleteI have used bolts and wrapped old fuse with aluminum foil more than a few times. Got me to a store and off the road side.

Maybe you should write a book - self publishing is pretty easy.
DeleteI guess that might get you home, as long as this time - the wiring harness and/or alternator doesn’t self-destruct to protect the new “fuses”. ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust never use 22 WMR rimfire ammo as a fuse, as one poor fellow discovered. The case might work in a pinch if you FIRE the round first.
ReplyDeleteYou don't see too many of those old 3 bolt systems around any more, most of the modern ones are 12.

ReplyDeleteIf the wiring reflects the rest of the vehicle, he will end up walking anyway.
ReplyDeleteWell, doing this helps pinpoint that high-resistance short-to-ground that is blowing those wimpy-ass fuses. Just look for the smoke/flames.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love that wire-wrapped shorty fuse there.
