And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
There is a documented case during the First Great Oil War of one being shot up so bad that the pilot could see the gear wheel through the top of the wing. The departed skin from the top of the wing was fed back through one engine. He rode it home ok, but to a man, every hog driver I've known has complained bitterly about the engines....
There was this pilot with a call sign of "Soup" during the Gulf war. He brought in a A-10 that was missing an engine and that side of the rear wing and 3 feet of the opposite front wing. There were bullet holes all over the plane and holes you could stick you head in. He was able to land it but the brakes had been damaged so it coasted off the end of the runway. When he finally came to a stop he climbed out and said, "get me another plane, I have to go back and fuck up that SOB that shot off my engine."
must have been his favorite engine. had one down in florida come in off of avon park gunnery range with damage from another a10s gunfire. frangible ammo took of the left stabilizer assembly and shelled the left engine. looooove that machine.
And, he or she for that matter, is gonna need a new flight suit too.
ReplyDeleteAh, it'll buff out...
ReplyDeleteThe Hawgs have a reputation of bringing you home.
ReplyDeleteThe USAF wants to replace them with F-35's, which can't go low and slow, but the USAF hopes that they will be invisible...
DeletePhotoshop. Warthogs ARE impressive, but that pic is someone's fantasy.

Nope, they can take a lot more.

I miss watching the NatGuard Hogs fly out of Patrick AFB to go play at Avon Park.
DeleteNever ever saw an A-10 about 50ft above the ocean near Patrick. The Air Force doesn't allow that. Nope. Never ever happened...
