And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I used to live near the Brig-o-Dee (the famous bridge that crosses the Dee River in Aberdeen). I lived there for some months, and the view out the front of the house was an unobstructed view of the river itself. You could see salmon running and there were almost always swans visible on the river as well. It may sound ideal, and at the time, it certainly was. I love Aberdeen and will always love the Royal Deeside.
