Most likely drying the morning dew off his feathers. We have a lot of black vultures that do the same here in the Shenandoah. You'll see a dead tree with dozens of them all with their wings outstretched like that in the morning sun.
Around here (central valley, Ca) I've seen a dozen or more turkey vultures catching the early morning rays in old dead trees or sitting on a fence line with their wings stretched wide. Also saw condors at the Grand Canyon do the same. Must be a big bird thing.
