  1. Good book to keep in the library ive had it for years. There are a few very good canning recipes in it.

  2. I was watching a short on these folks who freeze dry, they were doing eggs from their chickens.
A freeze dryer machine does cost more than jars & pressure cooker/canner but having freeze dried beef stew rather than jars is not a bad thing I'd think, stores well, keeps well, a little more effort to get it ready to eat but the freeze dry would take up so much less space.

    1. Are the freeze dried items less susceptible to spoilage?

    2. It shouldnt be one way or the other mindset. Knowing how to do them all is what you should be working at. We can both pressure and water bath we freeze and freeze dry as well as dehydrate and vacuum seal. Having the ability to put up food and have a long term pantry and a plan is more important than ever now.

    3. Had lots of ground beef from a butchering. Freeze dried it. Was very like the original when rehydrated. Stored correctly it should be good for 20 years. Did colby/jack shredded cheese, too. Tastes like Cheese-Itz

  4. Have had a freeze dryer for quite a while - one friend has a hallway full of old filing cabinets with drawers of bags with food in them. No need for a freezer & takes up less space - Thanksgiving left overs - Christmas left overs (and much more) all go into a Mylar bag with an oxy absorber they last est. 25 years. Food tastes exactly the same after years also. I highly recommend them.
