One Big Tuna

  1. My largest was 258 lbs. A junior Blue Fin. Took several hours to land using a handline with a feather lure on 80# mono leader and 800# braid.
When it did the dying tuna flop, the tail broke two 2x6" sistered together.
Since I was on the hunt for big tuna, I built a box out of 2x6" to contain the fish on deck. That didn't work as well as I wanted.

  2. They landed that fish on thick foam pads to limit bruising. Wouldn't be surprised if it was on ice jetting to Japan that night.

  7. One of my brothers caught one that big or maybe bigger a couple years ago off of S. Carolina. His fish was longer but not as fat looking. Took him 4 hours to land and the fish towed the boat backwards 5 miles from where they hooked up. If I remember correctly it weighed 560 lbs.
